The Rap Quotes ATL

Street Art Project with Jay Shells | 2014

One of the most creative hip-hop themed street art projects brought home to hip-hop's most important city.

NYC artist Jay Shells creates custom street signs featuring iconic rap lyrics and installs them at the exact physical locations referenced in the songs. After installations in New York and Los Angeles, the project made its way to Atlanta — honoring the Dirty South and one of hip-hop's most culturally significant cities.

Origin

The project was tied into a marketing campaign for A3C, where we gave away festival passes to anyone who could find and photograph three signs across the city — turning the installation into an interactive scavenger hunt that brought the signs, the lyrics, and the locations to life.

It became one of the most meaningful campaigns I've worked on. I developed a friendship with Jay Shells and spent two days driving around Atlanta together, experiencing the city through the places that inspired lyrics from some of the most important hip-hop artists from Atlanta and beyond.
